Medeco M3 is the current generation: UL 437 listed, patented keyway through 2034, embedded chip in the key for pick / bump / impressioning resistance, restricted distribution. The older Medeco Bi-axial is still on plenty of PSL commercial doors from the 1990s-2010s and we still service those. Maxum is the residential / light-commercial deadbolt; KeyMark is the geographically-exclusive restricted system.
The pain point that brings most Medeco calls: the property owner has Medeco locks but lost or never received the authorization signature card, and no other locksmith will cut keys. Medeco is a restricted-distribution brand. That means most locksmiths in Treasure Coast aren't set up to cut its keys, don't stock its cylinders, and will quietly steer you toward a Schlage Primus instead because that's what they have. We are equipped specifically for Medeco service, which matters when the threat model is real and a Primus won't cut it.
The reason Medeco resists key duplication is that the keyway is restricted by contract and the keys carry a patent through 2034. A locksmith who can't legally cut the keys can't actually service the lock.
Schlage Primus is a strong high-security upgrade. Medeco M3 is a step beyond - true UL 437 listing, embedded key chip, longer patent. We'll tell you straight when M3 is warranted and when Primus is enough.
We design master / sub-master / grand-master systems on Medeco keyways and give you a written bitting chart you can use to manage key issuance over time. Most dispatch services don't do this.
When a property changes hands and the authorization card is lost, the usual answer is shipping cylinders to Medeco for re-bitting. We do it on-site with our pinning kits and re-register the system to the new owner.

Medeco M3. The current standard Medeco residential and commercial cylinder. Three-element security: angled cuts on the key (rotating pins), elevation cuts (vertical pins), and a side-bar with finger pins for additional pick resistance. UL 437 listed. We retrofit M3 cylinders into Schlage B660, Yale 8800, Sargent 8200, Corbin mortise, and most major brand deadbolt and mortise bodies. PSL high-value residential and commercial standard.
Medeco X4. Newer top-tier cylinder. Adds magnetic interaction and slider technology on top of M3's three-element security. Higher pick resistance, restricted by territory (we are an authorized X4 dealer for PSL and the broader Treasure Coast). Used on the highest-value PSL commercial and residential where mechanical key control is the priority.
Medeco CLIQ (electromechanical). Programmable key system - each user gets a key with an embedded chip, and the cylinder reads and authorizes (or denies) on insertion. Audit trail of every entry. Used by PSL government facilities, pharma, and some property-management portfolios for master-key control without the rekey burden when a key is lost. Key never needs to be physically rekeyed - just deactivate the lost key in the system.
Medeco Maxum deadbolt. Medeco's residential deadbolt body, paired with the M3 or X4 cylinder. Solid brass body, hardened steel bolt, anti-saw insert. Grade 1 ANSI. The actual high-security deadbolt option for a PSL home where the threat model includes a determined intruder, not just casual entry.
Medeco padlocks. The 32, 54, 73 series padlocks - used on PSL commercial gate, warehouse, equipment, and storage applications. Brass body, hardened shackle, M3 or X4 cylinder. Cuts only authorized by signature card.
Medeco Z-Series. Cam locks for cabinets, drawers, file cabinets, and pharma storage. Common in PSL medical offices and pharmacies for DEA-compliant Schedule II storage.
Restricted keyway = real key control. The number-one reason businesses pick Medeco is the signature-card system. Each authorized keyholder signs a card when the system is set up. When new keys are cut, the request has to match a registered keyholder. A locksmith who is not an authorized dealer cannot get Medeco key blanks - period. That means an employee who copies their key at a kiosk gets nothing usable.
UL 437 high-security listing. UL 437 is the actual Underwriters Laboratories standard for high-security locks - pick, bump, drill, and force resistance tested to a defined standard. Medeco M3 and X4 pass. Most consumer-grade locks (Schlage B60, Kwikset Signature, Yale Real Living) are not UL 437 - they are ANSI Grade 1, 2, or 3, which is a different and lower standard.
PSL use cases where Medeco actually pays off. Banks (the smaller PSL branches and credit unions), jewelry stores (the few in Tradition Square and along US-1), gun safes / armories, pharma offices for DEA Schedule II storage, government / municipal facilities, and high-value private residences (waterfront Hutchinson Island, the higher-end PGA Verano homes). For ordinary PSL residential, Medeco is overspec - a Schlage B660 Primus is plenty and saves $200+ per door.
Authorized dealer model - what it means for you. We are an authorized Medeco dealer for PSL and the Treasure Coast. We can set up new restricted-keyway systems, register keyholders, cut authorized copies, and deactivate compromised keys. If your Medeco system was set up by a different authorized dealer (a former employee, prior owner), you have options: either get authorization from the original dealer to release the system to us, or rekey to a new Medeco system registered to you. We walk through both on the phone.
What Medeco is not. Medeco does not have a strong smart-lock line - Yale Assure, Schlage Encode, and the August / level offerings beat it on smart-home features. If your priority is app-driven smart access, Medeco is the wrong tool. If your priority is mechanical key control + pick resistance + force resistance, Medeco is the right answer.

Yes - the Medeco M3 cylinder is a drop-in replacement for the standard cylinder in most Schlage B660, Yale 8800, Sargent 8200, and Corbin mortise locks. Retrofit cost is $180-260 install + $120-220 for the cylinder. This is the most common upgrade path for PSL businesses that already have solid commercial mortise hardware but want better key control.
CLIQ is Medeco's electromechanical key system - each authorized user has a key with an embedded chip; the cylinder reads, authorizes, and logs every entry. Lost keys are deactivated in the system rather than physically rekeying. It pays off for portfolios with 8+ keyed users where lost keys happen regularly (multi-tenant property management, government facilities, pharma). For a small business with 3 keys, CLIQ is overspec - stick with M3 mechanical.
Both are restricted-keyway high-security cylinders. The primary differences: (1) Medeco M3 has angled / rotating pins on the key, which Primus does not - this adds a layer of pick resistance that Primus lacks; (2) Medeco is UL 437 listed across M3 and X4 lines; Primus has UL 437 only in specific configurations; (3) Schlage Primus is more widely stocked and slightly less expensive; Medeco is the higher tier. For ordinary residential, Primus is plenty. For bank, jewelry, pharma, gun safe - go Medeco.
Realistically, no - not in any timeframe relevant to a real-world burglary scenario. The combination of elevation pins, rotating angled pins, and side-bar finger pins on M3 (plus magnetic interaction on X4) defeats common picking techniques. Demonstrated attacks on Medeco in security-research conferences exist but require highly specialized tools, hours of attempt time, and access conditions that are not present in any normal burglary. For PSL practical purposes, Medeco is pick-immune.
