Why Port St. Lucie Homeowners Call Us About Safes
Your important documents are inside. Or your jewelry. Or your passport and you're flying out tomorrow.
The safe won't open. You tried the combination. Nothing. You checked the backup key. Can't find it. Or it doesn't work either.
Now you're standing in front of a very expensive metal box wondering if you need to break it open with a sledgehammer.
Don't.
We've been opening safes across Port St. Lucie since 2009. Home safes. Gun safes. Floor safes. Old safes in houses people just bought. New safes that were never set up right.
Most of the time, we open them without damage. You get your stuff. Your safe still works. Crisis over.

Common Reasons Safes Won't Open
You Forgot the Combination
Happens all the time. You set a combination when you bought it. That was three years ago. You haven't opened it since.
Or you inherited your dad's safe. He never told anyone the combination. Now you've got a 500-pound locked box in your garage.
We can open it. Either by manipulation (figuring out the combination by feel and sound) or by drilling (strategic hole, open the safe, repair the hole after).
The Batteries Died (Electronic Safes)
This is the #1 call we get about electronic safes.
Your keypad's not responding. You punch in your code. Nothing happens. No beep. No lights.
Dead batteries. Happens every 6-12 months depending on use.
Good news: most electronic safes have a 9V battery jump port. We hold a 9V battery to the terminals. Safe powers up. You punch your code. It opens.
Then we replace the internal batteries. You're good for another year.
Takes 10 minutes. Costs way less than you'd think.
Someone Changed the Combination and Forgot to Write It Down
Your spouse changed the combination for security. Didn't tell you the new one. Now they can't remember it either.
Or you changed it and were certain you'd remember it. You didn't.
We've seen this scenario about a hundred times.
The Lock Mechanism Failed
You enter the right combination. You hear it try to unlock. But it doesn't.
Something broke inside. A gear stripped. A solenoid died. The bolt got jammed.
We'll open it and fix the mechanism. Your safe will work again.
The Safe Is Old and Nobody Knows Anything About It
You bought a house in St. Lucie West. There's a floor safe in the master closet. Previous owner said "we never used it."
You have no combination. No key. No manual. No idea what brand it even is.
We've opened dozens of these. Old floor safes are actually easier than modern safes in some ways. They're built simpler.
How We Open Safes
Method 1: Electronic Override (Electronic Safes)
Most electronic safes have a master code. Or a 9V jump port. Or both.
We use these first. Non-destructive. Takes minutes. Safe works perfectly after.
Method 2: Manipulation (Dial Safes)
This is the art of safe cracking. We feel the lock mechanism through the dial. Listen for clicks and resistance changes. Work out the combination.
Takes 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the safe. No damage. Safe works perfectly after.
Not all locksmiths can do this. We've got techs who've been doing it for 15+ years.
Method 3: Scoping (When We Need More Info)
We drill a tiny hole. Insert a fiber optic scope. Look inside at the lock mechanism. See what's happening.
This tells us whether we can manipulate it open or if we need to drill for access.
The scope hole is small. We repair and seal it after. Most people never notice it.
Method 4: Precision Drilling (Last Resort)
When manipulation won't work, we drill strategically.
We don't drill randomly. We drill in specific spots that let us access the locking mechanism. We avoid the lock itself when possible.
After we open it, we repair the drill hole. Seal it. Your safe is secure again.
Yes, there's a patch. But your safe still works. That beats cutting it open with a torch.
Safes We've Opened
The Inherited Gun Safe in Tradition
Customer's father passed away. Left him a Liberty gun safe. No combination in the paperwork. Keys were lost years ago.
We manipulated it open in 45 minutes. Father's shotgun collection was inside. Customer had been worried he'd have to destroy a $2,000 safe.
Total cost: $300. Safe still works perfectly.
The Vacation Home SentrySafe
Couple only visits Port St. Lucie a few months a year. Their fire safe (SentrySafe) wouldn't open. Electronic lock wasn't responding.
Dead batteries. We jumped it with a 9V battery. Replaced the internal batteries. Five minutes. $85.
Their passports were inside. They needed them for a cruise the next day.
The Floor Safe Nobody Knew About
New homeowners in St. Lucie West found a floor safe hidden under carpet. Previous owner said it was empty, but they didn't have the combination to check.
We drilled it. Opened it. It was empty. But now they know for sure. And they can use it.
We reset the combination to something they chose. Repaired the drill hole. $350.
What It Costs to Open a Safe
Depends on the safe type and how we open it.
Electronic safe (battery jump or override): $85-$200
Dial safe (manipulation): $200-$450
Safe drilling (when required): $300-$700
Emergency same-day service: Add $50-100
We tell you the price before we start. If you don't want to pay it, we don't do the work. No hard feelings.
Can We Open Your Safe Without Damaging It?
Honest answer: depends.
Electronic safes: 95% of the time, yes. We can jump the power or use an override code. No damage.
Dial safes (home safes, gun safes): 60-70% of the time we can manipulate them open. No damage. 30-40% require drilling.
High-security safes (TL-15 rated and higher): These are built to resist manipulation. Drilling is usually necessary. But we repair it after.
We always try non-destructive methods first. Drilling is the last resort.
Proof of Ownership
We need proof you own the safe before we open it. Obviously.
What we accept:
- Safe purchase receipt with your name
- Safe registration card
- Deed/lease showing you own/rent the property where the safe is located
- Utility bill at the address + matching ID
- Will or probate documents (for inherited safes)
If you can't prove ownership, we can't help you. This is to prevent us from helping thieves rob your safe.
What About Safe Installation?
We install safes too. Home safes. Gun safes. Floor safes. Wall safes.
Proper installation matters. A safe that's not bolted down can be stolen. Just carry the whole thing out of your house.
We anchor safes to your floor or wall studs. Make them nearly impossible to remove.
Safe installation cost: $150-$400 depending on safe type and where it's going.
Combination Changes
After we open your safe, you'll probably want a new combination. Especially if we had to drill it or manipulate it open.
We can reset the combination to whatever you want.
Electronic safe: Easy. We reset it digitally. Takes 5 minutes. Usually included in the opening fee.
Dial safe: More complex. We have to access the lock mechanism and physically change the combination wheels. $100-$200 additional.

Before You Try to Force It Open
We've seen people try to open their own safes with:
Sledgehammers. Angle grinders. Crowbars. Drills (in all the wrong places). Fire.
None of it worked. All of it destroyed the safe. And the stuff inside.
One guy in Tradition tried to drill his gun safe himself. Broke three drill bits. Jammed the lock worse. By the time he called us, we had to drill in two places to get it open.
Cost him double what it would've if he'd called us first.
Don't be that guy. Call us. We'll get it open without making it worse.
Can't Get Into Your Safe?
We'll open it today. Professional. Discreet. Usually without damage.
