Why Port St. Lucie Homeowners Are Ditching Their Keys
You're coming back from the beach. Your hands are full. Your phone's dying. You're trying to fish your keys out of your wet bag.
Why are you still doing this?
We've been installing keyless entry systems across Port St. Lucie since 2009. St. Lucie West townhomes. Tradition single-families. Condos in Rio. Every year, more people make the switch.
And nobody — I mean nobody — ever asks to go back to regular keys.
📞 Ready to Go Keyless?
Call (772) 284-5142 - We'll walk you through your options and install same-day.
What Exactly Is Keyless Entry?
It's a lock that doesn't need a physical key. Instead, you unlock your door using:
A PIN code — Tap 4-8 numbers on a keypad. Door unlocks. Done.
Your smartphone — Tap your phone or just walk up. Smart locks detect you and unlock automatically.
Your fingerprint — Put your finger on the scanner. It recognizes you in half a second.
A key fob — Like your car remote. Wave it near the lock. Click. You're in.
Most systems we install also keep a backup key option. Just in case. But honestly? Most people stop using keys completely within a week.
The Real Reasons People Call Us
"I Locked Myself Out Three Times This Month"
This is the #1 reason. You step outside to grab the mail. Door closes. Keys? Still on the counter.
With keyless entry, you literally can't lock yourself out. Your code (or phone, or fingerprint) is always with you.
We installed a keypad deadbolt for a woman in Tradition who was calling us every other week for lockouts. She has kids. They forget keys constantly.
She hasn't called us since.
"I Can't Remember Where I Put My Spare Key"
Under the mat? Fake rock? Flowerpot? Everyone knows to check there.
You don't need a spare key when you've got a code. Even better? Give your dog walker their own code. Delete it when they stop coming. No key pickup, no security risk.
"I Need to Let Someone In While I'm Gone"
Contractor needs access? House cleaner coming Tuesday? Airbnb guest checking in?
Smart locks let you create temporary codes. Set them to expire after one day, one week, whatever you need. No meeting them with keys. No worrying if they made copies.
"I Just Want My Life to Be Easier"
Honest answer. And fair.
Coming home from Publix with arms full of groceries? Just punch your code. Walking up wet from the pool? Tap your phone. Half asleep at 6 AM taking out the trash? You've got a code.
It's just... easier. Every single day.
Types of Keyless Entry We Install
Keypad Locks (Most Popular)
Simple. Reliable. Works without Wi-Fi or batteries dying mid-month.
You get a keypad on the outside of your door. Punch in your 4-8 digit code. Deadbolt unlocks.
What we like: No app needed. No internet connection. Nothing to charge. Just works.
Best brands: Schlage Encode, Kwikset SmartCode, Yale Assure. We stock all of them.
Cost installed: $200-$350 depending on the model.
Smart Locks (Phone Control)
Connect to your Wi-Fi. Control from anywhere.
Lock or unlock from Miami. Get alerts when your kids get home from school. See who came and went all day. Give your sister a virtual key for the weekend.
Works with Alexa ("Alexa, lock the front door"). Works with Google Home. Works with Apple HomeKit if you've got that setup.
What we like: Full remote control. Activity logs. Temporary access codes you can text to people.
Downside: Needs Wi-Fi. Needs battery changes every 6-12 months.
Best brands: August Smart Lock (retrofits over your existing deadbolt), Schlage Encode Plus, Yale Assure Lock 2.
Cost installed: $250-$450.
Biometric Locks (Fingerprint)
Your finger is your key. Literally.
Touch the scanner. It recognizes your fingerprint in 0.5 seconds. Door unlocks.
You can store up to 100 fingerprints. Every family member. Maybe the neighbor who feeds your cat.
What we like: Fastest unlock. Can't forget your finger. Can't share it (unlike codes).
Best for: People who want serious security without carrying anything.
Best brands: Kwikset Halo Touch, Ultraloq U-Bolt Pro.
Cost installed: $300-$500.
Real Installations We've Done
The Airbnb Owner in St. Lucie West
She was coordinating key handoffs for every check-in. Meeting guests at random hours. Hiding keys in lockboxes.
We installed a Schlage Encode smart lock. Now she creates a unique code for each guest, texts it to them before arrival, and it auto-expires at checkout.
She hasn't met a guest in person in two years. Says it's changed her life.
The Mom with Four Kids in Tradition
Her kids kept losing house keys. She was spending $30/week getting new ones cut.
We installed a simple Kwikset SmartCode keypad. Gave each kid their own code so she'd know who got home when.
Problem solved. No more lost keys. No more frantic calls from kids locked outside.
The Retiree in Jensen Beach
He's got arthritis. Turning a key was getting painful.
We put in a fingerprint lock. He just touches it. Door opens. No twisting, no fumbling.
His daughter (lives in Orlando) also has the app. She can unlock it remotely if he forgets his phone inside.
Common Questions We Get
What happens if the battery dies?
Most locks warn you weeks in advance. Beeping. Flashing lights. App notifications.
But say you ignore all that and it dies. Most keyless locks have a 9V battery jump port. Touch a standard 9V battery to the terminals, and you've got enough power to unlock and get inside to change the main batteries.
Can someone hack my smart lock?
Good question. Short answer: extremely unlikely.
Reputable brands use 128-bit encryption. Same as your bank. To hack it, someone would need sophisticated equipment, time, and access to your Wi-Fi network.
Your regular key lock? That can be picked in 30 seconds with a $5 tool from Amazon.
So no, smart locks aren't the weak point.
Do I need to replace my whole door?
Nope. We replace just the lock. Your door stays. Your frame stays. Usually takes 30-45 minutes.
Some smart locks (like August) retrofit right over your existing deadbolt. We don't even touch the outside of your door.
What if I have renters or Airbnb guests?
Perfect use case.
Create a code for each renter. Set it to expire on their checkout date. No coordinating keys. No wondering if they made copies. No changing locks between tenants.
We've installed these on rental properties all over Port St. Lucie. Landlords love them.
Will it work during a hurricane if the power's out?
Yes. Keyless locks run on batteries, not your house power.
Smart locks might lose their remote features if your Wi-Fi's down. But the keypad and fingerprint scanner still work locally.
You can still unlock your door. You just can't do it from your phone in a hotel in Georgia.
How many codes can I set up?
Depends on the lock. Entry-level models: 10-30 codes. Mid-range: 50-100. High-end: up to 250.
Most families need 5-10 codes. One per family member, plus a couple for regular visitors or service people.
Installation Is Simple (For Us, Anyway)
Step 1: You call us. Tell us what door you want to upgrade. We recommend a lock based on your needs.
Step 2: We come to your home. We've got the lock in our van. Most Port St. Lucie jobs, we're there same-day.
Step 3: We remove your old lock. Install the new one. Perfect alignment. Tight fit.
Step 4: We set up your codes (or fingerprints, or app connection). Test everything twice.
Step 5: We show you how to use it. How to add codes. How to delete them. What all the beeps mean.
Usually takes 30-60 minutes start to finish. Then we're gone. You've got keyless entry.

Why You'll Love Going Keyless
Look, I get it. You've had keys your whole life. It feels weird to not carry them.
But here's what happens:
Week one, you'll still reach for your keys out of habit. You'll have a moment of panic. Then you'll remember. Oh yeah. I just need my code.
Week two, you'll stop thinking about it. It just works.
Month two, you'll wonder why you waited so long.
